How do you get those little icons to appear on your nickname?

I see all these little lower case "L" 's and musical notes and other things. They put them on their nickname box. I know how to do the hearts but they still don't appear as hearts on here. They just appear like this %26lt;3. Can anyone let me in the secret?! |||ALT1 鈽?br>
