How do you get someone to start calling you a nickname?

Just wondering, because like, you have to get people to say ur nickname before you start saing it or something.|||You use the name when you first meet them. Otherwise, it's really hard to get someone who already calls you something to change to a nickname, especially if it isn't a shortened form of your name, like call me Sonny when my name is Norman and that's what they're used to calling you. You might get them to shorten it to Norm, otherwise, it's going to be hard.





My brother in law is called one thing by his family and another by us because he introduced himself to my sister with the name, apparently, he wanted to be called. When both families are together, each of us uses the name we're familiar with and don't worry about it.|||...Um? That's something that has to come about naturally.|||You don't pick your own nickname.





But if you're adamant about it anytime you meet someone new tell them that's what you go by.
